How to Remove Mold on Vinyl Siding
The pictures below are from a house power wash in Vienna, VA that we completed this week. Our customer’s siding was relatively new at only 3 years old, but because this particular side of the home was in a shaded area that did not receive much sunlight, it was easy for mold to build up and grow quickly in a short amount of time. Typically, you will find the North side of your house is most susceptible to mold build up. And if you have mature trees surrounding the house, visible mold can appear in as little as 2 months.

Vinyl siding manufacturers will often state that siding should be cleaned once or twice a year, at a minimum. We agree and recommend that our customers maintain their siding by washing the exterior at least annually and at a higher frequency if the home is in a heavily shaded area, receiving little sunlight.
The best way to get rid of this “green yuck” is a mild cleaning solution, preferably one that is capable of eliminating and killing mold. The solution should be applied evenly on the siding and thoroughly rinsed using a pressure washer set at the appropriate pressure wash settings. Using the wrong amount of pressure or cleaning solution can result in damaged siding or streaks on your siding due to uneven cleaning. With the right equipment and cleaning products, this problem can be tackled in no time.
